MJ Kinman BIRTHSTONE SERIES with Gwen Loiselle

If you can sew two pieces of fabric together with a quarter-inch seam allowance, you can do this! This isn’t foundation paper piecing. There is no need to sew fabric to a paper foundation. Templates are ironed to the RIGHT side of the fabric, so there is no confusing reverse piecing. Templates are easily removed, so there are no paper bits to pull from the back of the quilt. This is traditional piecing using freezer paper as your template. Create your own gem using the Octagon Rose pattern.

What Does the Student Bring to Class?

• Gemstone pattern and fabric kit (supplied by instructor)
• Business sized envelopes or medium size ziplock baggies (5 – 10, varies on gemstone)
• Rotary cutter
• Ruler:  Suggestions: 6 x 12 or 6 x 24
• Cutting mat
• You will be cutting both paper and fabric, so use your older rotary blade for cutting the paper and pack a new blade for cutting the fabric
• Basic sewing supplies, including a seam ripper, tweezers, scissors (paper and fabric) and pins
• Fabric marking pencils in light and dark
• Highlighters - 2 different colors
• Sewing machine, don’t forget your cords and presser feet
• Glue Stick

Optional Supplies:

• Small iron and pressing pad, nice to have at your workstation
• Acorn Precision Piecing Products – starter kit
